In the beautiful Sussex village of Steyning is a wonderful concert hall, with a Steinway piano. We have used this venue annually for our Celebration Concerts. This year was extra special, as we were celebrating the work of Hove based Suzuki piano teacher, Angela Davis who is now retiring.
The Hall was full of her present and past pupils, many played accompanied by a professional ensemble, and even though Angela wasn’t expecting it, there were speeches from current and past families, and many ‘Thank yous’, cards, and flowers.
There were lots of violin performances ranging from Twinkle to Rameau Gavotte and performances with ensemble and harpsichord of Bach A minor first movement by Rosie Pilott and the Bach Double slow movement with Laurie Miller joined by SDSG teacher Claire Kirkpatrick. We welcomed two families of violinists from Guildford, pupils of Sue Thomas who joined the violin group performances. We even had three generations involved in the concert, Suzuki piano teacher Lynnette Gottlieb, her Suzuki teacher daughter Ruth, leading the ensemble, and two of Lynnette’s grandchildren, pianists Olivia and Roberta performing a duet.
Thank you Angela for all you have done to enrich the lives of so many families.
If anyone would consider moving to the Brighton to teach Suzuki piano the South Downs Suzuki Group would love to welcome you!
