East Anglian Suzuki Summer Concert 2023
After many months of planning, numerous phone calls, Zoom calls and emails plus just a few lunches and a few changes of plans, the event of the year took place.
Forty-four students, four teachers plus parents, families and supporters from across the region gathered together at the Charter Hall in Colchester on Sunday 11th June for what has become an annual Summer Concert for the region.
Originally it was scheduled to be at Colchester’s famous Moot Hall but we had to make a last minute switch due to the beautiful ceiling there being deemed unsafe. The Charter Hall provided a cooler concert space, which was fortunate as it was an incredibly hot day, as well as a larger stage area. This provided space for sixteen pianists, twenty-two violinists, three violists and six cellists, with some students showing their versatility by playing more than one instrument.
The programme was varied and included piano trios and quartets, studio and Ipswich and Cambridge group items, string trios and quartets and culminated in a wonderful playtogether ranging from Book 5 pieces to Twinkle variations.
The students gave beautiful performances due to the dedication of themselves, their families and their teachers; Lilian Hall, Jenny Macmillan, John Mudd, Rachel Raval, Emma Seggar and Christina Sherriff.
Everyone enjoyed the event, and the opportunity to meet our Suzuki friends and make new ones from across the region. Many of us celebrated afterwards in Colchester Park with a picnic where the students took part in an impromptu game of football, sampled a range of ice creams and were serenaded by bagpipe bands taking part in the Scotland in Colchester Event!
Thank you to everyone for their dedication and support in this event, in particular the BSMA for all their help enabling us to hold this concert.
We look forward to seeing our friends again and meeting new ones throughout the year and at our Summer event next year.
